UK: Molecular Profiles wins second prestigious Queen's Award

05.05.2011
Molecular Profiles, one of The University of Nottingham’s spinout companies, has won the prestigious Queen's Award for Enterprise — the UK’s highest accolade for business success.

The award, the second for Innovation, has been made in recognition of the company’s cutting edge pharmaceutical development services that significantly improve and speed-up the introduction of new drugs.

The awards are made annually by HM The Queen and are only given for the highest levels of excellence demonstrated in each category. They are judged to a demanding level and winners receive a number of benefits and worldwide recognition.

The Queens Award comes just days after Molecular Profiles was awarded £1.6m from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund — one of only 62 companies, and one of only two in the East Midlands, in the first round of awards. The money will be used for a £10m expansion project including the building of a new 30,000 sq ft facility at its Nottingham Business Park base.

Chairman, Professor Martyn Davies, said: “These are exciting times for Molecular Profiles and we are delighted with our two recent achievements. This could not have been achieved without our highly talented and committed team who have demonstrated year on year that they can solve some of the toughest drug development issues.”

Molecular Profiles specialises in providing pharmaceutical development services and consulting expertise to pharmaceutical companies worldwide. It offers a complete portfolio of services including formulation development, preformulation, polymorph screening, salt selection, analytical services and clinical trial manufacturing for up to phase IIa. This extensive range of solutions all under one roof decreases the need to perform a technical transfer of work to other companies and therefore lessens the risk to the customer’s research.

The Queens Award is made to Molecular Profiles Limited for the creation of cutting edge development services that includes the nanoPASS™ (nanoscale Predictive Analytical Screening Solution) service platform. This novel analytical approach improves the development of new pharmaceuticals by exploiting the latest advances in nanotechnology to yield key analytical data from minute quantities of potential drug candidates and then predicting those candidates that are most likely to make it to market. It helps customers to substantially reduce R&D and production costs and enables earlier introduction of new medicines to market benefiting both industry and patients.
