Damages and resource of locomotive wheels used under the north operating conditions
Engineering Education # 02, February 2014 DOI: 10.7463/0214.0699140 The Far North environment has extreme operation conditions characterized by the sharp changes of temperature which can reach ≥1000C on the surface of materials, depending on their reflecting power, with multiple transitions through a water freezing point. In the Far North environment such negative climatic factors cause an essential decrease in operation efficiency of technical constructions and equipment, including the railway transport. The article investigates a process of damage accumulation in material, describes an assessment technique for damage and resource of the locomotive wheel bandage that operates at low climatic temperatures. It also presents the calculation- and experiment-based technique to assess accumulation of damages and calculate resource of locomotive wheel bandage.
