The work involves an analysis of interaction between terahertz radiation and medium and an experimental study of obtaining spectral characteristics of artistic materials estimation by terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. A comparison of spectral curves of refraction indices and absorptivities for acrylic, tempera and oil paints is provided. Feasibility of hidden image detection by a terahertz imaging system is studied. Results are provided for imaging of pencil drawing hidden under the gouache layer. A conclusion about feasibility of terahertz spectroscopic and imaging systems in the interest of artistic inspections is given
